The Mission of the Rotary Club of Grand Bend is to make a difference both in our local community and in the world. We have raised over $1.4 million in support of key local and international projects. The Rotary Club of Grand Bend wishes to engage our citizens and businesses in projects and activities which will ensure that Grand Bend and Area remains a vital, healthy and desirable community.

AUTUMN INDULGENCE
LIVE AUCTION

The Rotary Club of Grand Bend’s annual fundraiser provides opportunities for businesses and individuals to donate more valuable auction items which, when featured in a live auction, provide the donor with greater exposure to our guests and sponsors before, during and after the live auction.

Items that have been presented at the live auction in the past include:

  • Trips to holiday destinations
  • Works of art, including stained glass and paintings
  • Kitchen, Back Yard and other Home renovations
  • Entertainment Packages, theatre and shows
  • Professional sports packages for games in Toronto and Detroit
  • Unique collections of liquor, wines and art

The Rotary Club of Grand Bend introduced Grace Theophilopoulos as the first recipient of the Warner Environmental Scholarship. Grace is a member of Eco Exeter, a student-led club at South Huron District High School that promotes eco-friendly practices. Peter Warner, whose donation funded the scholarship, presented the award to Grace alongside Barb Smits. The award is for a graduating high school student from the Grand Bend area who has shown an interest in environmental action and is pursuing post-secondary education. Wow! Rosalind from ABCA was such an engaging and dynamic speaker. As a Healthy Watershed Technologist, she has an impressive background, starting with her undergraduate degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Toronto, followed by an Advanced Diploma in Environmental Engineering Technology from Centennial College. Before joining ABCA, she gained experience working in the education departments at the Toronto Zoo and Credit Valley Conservation in Mississauga Rosalind shared some fantastic projects Rotary has supported, like the Oaks to Acorns outdoor education program, activities at the Warner Preserve, and water sampling at Turnbull’s Grove. “Whenever I need something from Rotary,” she mentioned, “I just call you guys up, and I know you’ll be there to help.” She also introduced two new initiatives: one with Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency to sample two local rivers, including one in Grand Bend, and another with the University of Guelph to study microscopic pathogens in the area. Rosalind also talked about the Authority’s work on the Old Ausable Channel with researchers from the University of Toronto Scarborough, efforts in turtle and fish protection (like incubating 41 snapping turtle eggs in London), and agricultural best practices at the Huronview Demonstration Farm.
