Cecile Muller who is an avid local historian, shared the story of the town of Shipka (which means “rose hips” in Bulgarian), at the March 4 meeting. Cecile reflected, "I have such gratitude for the lives of the men and women who struggled to carve farms and villages out of the wilderness of the Huron Tract. Those early settlers brought with them courage, strength, knowledge and skill." Thank you, Cecile for the interesting presentation! Cecile Muller #shipka#historian#bulgarian... See MoreSee Less

The Rotary theme for the month of February is Peace building and conflict Prevention! This week the Club was treated to a demonstration of the art of debating. Ross introduced our guest speakers, Rotarian Paul Ciufo, and SHDHS student Mace. Paul is the coach of the school’s debating club, drawing on his own experience as a champion debater. Together with Rotarian Bill Carroll and SHDHS student Sophie, they staged a lively debate. Sophie and Delaney, co-Presidents of the Interact Club at SHDS provided an update on their activities, reporting on a successful toy drive and bake sale. The Club plans a craft sale and silent auction in May-June to support the organization Women for Afghan Women. Also in the works: a food drive for the Grand Bend Community Food Pantry, and a pickleball tournament. What a fun evening to celebrate the youth in our community doing great things in our community. ... See MoreSee Less
